The very last first

Well, it's been a while (long while) since I've blogged, and it'll be a while til I do again...
Our second little girl is due in February and I'm trying to enjoy having one child as much as I can. Peanut is growing by leaps and bounds, occasionally talking in full sentences now. For example, she said to my mom "My come see you". She knows her animals and animal sounds, and she's really really good at helping me. I'm hoping this comes in handy later. : )
Even though I'm trying to treasure spending every moment with her, when we're up to 3am sick, it's kinda difficult. Last night was pretty trying, but we got through it by the grace of God. I just kept singing "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength". Amen.
Meanwhile, we prep Peanut for the arrival of little Buttercup daily. We talk about babies and we've even bought her her own baby doll Emma. Emma has a bottle, food, stroller, car seat and bassinet. Time will tell if her love for Emma translates into a love for Buttercup too.

Super genius

Peanut is amazing! Yesterday I went to get her following her morning nap and she was Jumping in her crib! Yes, jumping! Her feet were leaving the floor! She was so excited that for the rest of the day if she heard the word 'jump', she'd take off!

And as if that wasn't enough, she did a sommersault too! Not just once, but twice! She put her wieght on her head and very gently and purposefully rolled onto her back. Wow!

All I behold is mine

Yep, she's found another new and fun word: Mine!
As in, My Bunny, My Dada, Mine, My Doose (Juice), My Baaah (Bob the Builder), and My Buhbuh (Bottle).
Of course there's no My Mama though. *sigh*

The Days of No

We knew these days were coming and I know it's an important part of Peanut's development, but gosh... "No" can get annoying.
She pronounces it "MO!!!", with a wail and a slight temble of total disagreement.

The kid can talk!

It's taken us a bit to catch on to her pronunciation of consonants, but now that we get it - man does Peanut talk a lot!
She says:
"Hey big guy!" (talking to my Dad on the phone)
"talk in here" (pointing to the wrong end of the phone)
"I love Dad!" (plastered against the front door waiting for Dad)
"apple sauce" (when asked what she'd like for breakfast)

I can't believe how often she must have been frustrated talking to us and having us reply with a generic answer like "that's true" or "how funny". Yeesh, good thing she still loves us.

Another one!

Yesterday I had my first ultrasound for baby #2. The pictures were pretty grainy, so there's nothing worth sharing, but it was still awesome to see movement on the screen. How amazing to know that at only 11 weeks a baby is bouncing, kicking and grooving.
Peanut, however, wasn't too fond of the whole thing. She waited patiently, for as long as is reasonable for a 14 month old, and after about 2 minutes started hinting "all done, all done! All DONE!" We went for cookies afterwards.

Schadenfreude

Today for lunch Peanut and I had pea soup and toast. Then for dessert I tried to serve up some fruit cocktail. I bumped the jar and quite literally sent it flying across the room. It landed just short of the carpet (whew) but the splash zone was from the dishwasher to the middle of the floor, around the high chair, and below the table. It was a huge sticky puddle dotted with peaches, pears and cherries. Peanut joyfully yelled Boom! and giggled for the next half hour as I cleaned it up. Who knew that a thirteen month old already experiences schadenfreude?!

It's fun to be a mom

It's so fun to see Peanut expressing her personality. Lately she's picked up a few more words and can participate in conversations sorts. She says Mama, Dada, Papa, Tsss (Yes), No, a-MEN! and now she says Banana too! She's so fun!
Yesterday I went to get her following her afternoon nap. I opened the door and found her cute little blonde head peeking at me over the top of the crib. I laughed. She giggled. As I swooped her up into my arms, I asked "Did you have a good nap?" She nodded a strong nod as if to say "Oh yes Mummy! It was a long nap and I feel refreshed!"
I stood her up on her change table and as I did so she leaned in and gave me a kiss!
If ever there was reward for being a SAHM, this is it. The little moments during the day when being close and together is happiness enough.

Expressing opinion

This morning Peanut is upstairs playing in her room with Dad. I'm going downstairs, so I call to her from the landing, "Oh Peanut! Come downstairs with Mummy?"
nothing
Again I call "Oh Peanut, come downstairs with Mummy!"
She appears at the top of the stairs.
I call out coaxingly "Come downstairs with Mummy."
She smiles, waves her hand and says "Bye bye Mama!" Then with a proud giggle and a flurry of feet, she scrambles back to Dada.
Dang, I've been dissed.

Pterodactyl

Well, peanut is cutting more teeth... How can I tell? Because she's turned into a pterodactyl! I pick her up and all of a sudden she lets out a mighty screech, opens her mouth wide and does a dive bomb for my face! It's truly terrifying! When I'm not fast enough, I loose skin in my chin. Yeesh!

I thought it was just a mommy thing, but this past weekend she got my sister too.

I need to get her chewing on cold clothes.

I'm a supermodel and a mommy...

Well, not a supermodel, but I am a mommy and I love it! Today we had some highs and lows. We found out Peanut has excema, poor thing. : (
But today she drank out of a cup herself! She did one sip, delicious! Two sips, oh so proud! By the third sip she was brave enough to tip the cup way up - and dumped a full cup of water up her nose, down her clothing, down Mommy and onto the floor. I awaited the first cry, but she only laughed... a great deep belly laugh full of pride and accomplishment. What a girl!

We be blogging!

Inspired by the 'everybody can be cool'ness of the More Milk commercial, I've decided to start bloggin'. We'll see how it goes...
